Artist Research: Skid Robot (The Living Art Project)

"Concrete Headboard", Skid Robot

"Urban Farmer", Skid Robot

"Dreams of World Peace", Skid Robot

During my research I looked at the work of several artists, including a site that sells the work of homeless artists to help them survive (https://www.artlifting.com/), but it was the concept of Skid Robot's pieces that enticed me to research his work further. Skid Robot uses spray paint and homely materials to show the desires of people living on the streets, his work has brought the underbelly of urban society into a new light, and has raised awareness of just how big homelessness is as a problem, especially in Los Angeles, where Skid Robot is situated.

His work enables the audience to gain a further understanding of these peoples day-to-day living conditions as well as communicating their opinions and goals they hope to achieve in their life. Altering these locations with the use of furniture and other objects found in homes also creates a comfier, more welcoming place for these people to live.

I also want to bring the problem of homelessness to a new light through my work, communicating to the audience that they are still human beings, just as scared and vulnerable as anyone else, and they too have opinions and stories they want to communicate to us.
