Stage 3 Research: Craig Stecyk.
"Two hundred years of American technology has unwittingly created a massive cement playground of unlimited potential. But it was the minds of 11 year olds that could see that potential." - Craig Stecyk.
Craig Stecyk is recognised as one of (if not the) most influential artists to skateboarding, both as a sport and an urban subculture.
Documenting its rise to popularity in the 1970s (the infamous "Dogtown Articles"), his photography showcased skateboarding as not just a sport, but a cultural/artistic movement that would stand the test of time. Stecyk's approach to the arts focuses on immersing the audience in a complex, underground culture, a creative outlet beyond normal comprehension, its something I aim to implement in my own practice.
