Charcoal Drawings (Homelessness/Urban Life Project)
After the critique in the "Shaun Project Space", I decided to branch away from photography, and focus on using raw materials to create work that fits with the dynamic of urban culture as a whole. My use of charcoal stems from researching the work and practice of Tony Bevan, an artist who also depicts his subjects in a raw and unapologetic fashion, he has been described as being: "known for his psychologically charged images of people at the edge of respectable society." I feel that these sketches do require a more in-depth approach, i think that incorporating more shading and having a more contrasting tone will help these quick sketches blossom into better pieces of work overall. The quotes written on the images themselves doesn't work well in my opinion, I think that the use of paper, possibly scrunched up and torn to keep with the strong theme, put onto the piece would create a much more engaging and visually interesting piece of work overall.
