"I study the world around me.

I paint from observation.

I make my own paints." (https://staszeksoup.wordpress.com/about/)

What strikes me first and foremost with Stephen Campbell is his practice, he makes his own paint, he observes on fine details but not so much as to distract from the whole scene, and he seems to enjoy studying the world. These scenes he depicts tend to be quite humble in nature, but he manages to skew or distort the perspective to create something different and visually dynamic, which is a method I strive to incorporate into my own practice.

Something about these depictions of everyday life seem so humbling, most people wont think twice about seeing a particular arrangement of buildings or forms, it isn't until you stop and give yourself time to look around that you start to appreciate the space you are in, and what you are surrounded by, Stephen Campbell has really inspired me and I plan on incorporating some of his methods into my own artistic endeavours.
